Sig Hutchinson is a Crabtree Rotarian. He constantly is working to preserve open space and protecting our water and air quality. He has led 5 bond referendums totalling $200 million in Wake County for Open Space Preservation. Raleigh's World Class Greenway System. Dec 14, 2011 Sig Hutchinson spoke to the club about how wonderful our greenways are. So far there's 60 miles of it stretched all over the city. Eventually there will be 180 miles of inter-connected greenways throughout the Triangle.
Dr. Ed showed a prepared, just-for-our-club, slide presentation including tons of statistics about NCState's College of Vet. Medicine. Additionally he related the history of the college and the fact it is 1 of only 29 veterinary schools in the USA. A great speaker & then a donation to Food Bank. Dec 7, 2011 Often a member of our club will be the day's speaker. Today, Dr. Ed Smallwood addressed the club and spoke about the NCState College of Vet. Medicine.Thanks Ed for a very informative program. Immediately after the meeting Gene Hirsch & Chris Stigall delivered donated items to Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC.

Greg told the club that he was very happy with the results of our first Ed Shook Golf Classic. Net receipts are about $7,000. Considering this was our first major fund raiser since Triangle Uncorked was cancelled, the Golf Classic was HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL! Club Assembly & Great News! A dentist, who was forced to retire due to serious osteo-arthritis, Dr. Shareff adopted the practice of Yoga and his flexabilty gradually returned to near normal!

Greg will be giving the slide presentation he showed us last week to several additional local Rotary Clubs. He hopes to inform the clubs of his work with the plight of orphans in many former Soviet Union countries. Both he and member Dr. Gabe Rich are involved in a very worthy project of helping children in orphanages in former SSR countries.
Ms Raegan Thomas, from Wake Technical College, returned to visit with us and receive our gift of $3,500 which will become 7-$500 scholarships to worthy students. It's an annual event and we look forward to Raegan's visit again next year. Scholarships awarded and an author spoke to us. Aug 24, 2011 Our club donated $3,500, in 7-$500 scholarships, to Wake Technical College in memory of deceased member TC Parker. It's an annual event for us and it's funded by our "Brag Dollars" collected each week by Ed Smallwood.

Mack Parker's daughter Latosha presented a PowerPoint on her experiences as a member of the Peace Corps. Living in very spartan surroundings Latosha learned much about the life in South Africa. After the PC she is now living and teaching in Antigua. Latosha Parker and her Peace Corps experiences Jun 29, 2011 Latosha Parker is Mack's daughter. She was a Peace Corps volunteer in South Africa and told us of her experiences.

Rich spanned the gamut from Lyme's to constipation. Speaking as he usually does, at 100 mph, he said that not all ticks carry Lyme's & you have 52 hours to remove it (in a counter-clockwise direction). A daily dose of Metamucil can do wonders for constipation and, maybe even prevent Alzheimer's. He was one of about 100 WW II veterans flown up to DC by the Raleigh Flight of Honor program. Visits to the WW II Memorial, Arlington Nat'l. Cemetary and other sites were filled with information and great emotional importance. Thanks Lee for sharing your trip with us.

Club President Boyd Bennett welcomed Ambassador Jim Cain as our gest speaker for today. In 2005 former Pres. Bush appointed Mr.Cain to serve as our US Ambassador to Denmark. He retired in 2009 to become CEO of the NC Hurricanes ice hockey team and practice law. Nora Casper-Literacy Council of Wake County Mar 2, 2011 Ms. Nora Casper was our guest speaker today. Founded in 1970, Literacy Council of Wake County helps adults 18 and older learn to read. They serve 600 people/year with 150-180 tutors. There is no charge to take the classes. Our club has been donating to the Council for +/- 10 years. Every weekly Rotary guest speaker has a tutoring book donated in his/her name to the Council.

Off all the money BCBS pays out, 70% goes for medical health problems due to poor lifestyle habits (ie: poor nutrition, not enough exercise). President & CEO of Blue Cross/Shield spoke today. President Boyd Bennett Annual North Raleigh Rotary Club Holiday Party Dec 15, 2010 A new venue, the Capital City Club, was this year's site for the club's party. And President Boyd Bennett called the meeting to order.
Our guest speaker for the day is surrounded by club members who were active during or just after WW II. The only exceptions are Art Clark (his dad was killed in action during the Battle of the Bulge) and Herman Steiner who was an underground operative in Belgium against the Germans. Triangle Flight Of Honor Dec 1, 2010 Ms. Sunny Johnson Lewis spoke to the club about honoring the WW II veterans of North Carolina. The organization makes it possible for any WW II veteran to visit the National WW II Memorial in Washington, DC. There is no charge to the honoree. Money for the flight and other transportation is made possible by donations of our Triangle Community. The organization uses 100% of its funding for the visits. There are no dollars spent on administrative costs.

Addendum to Take Your Child To Rotary Nov 23, 2010 Unable to bring his 2 grandsons to Rotary on Nov. 24th, Gene Hirsch took Sam (9) and Andrew (6) to radio station WCPE for a tour. Our own member Warner Hall is the classical music station's announcer on Tuesday evenings. Warner had the boys sit in the studio while he was "live" on air. Thank you for your generosity Warner; and the station's as well.

Triangle Uncorked Sep 29, 2007 Our annual wine & food festival has been wonderfully successful as wine distributors from across North Carolina pour the largest and most varied selection of wines for any tasting held in our area. Offerings from Australia, New Zealand, California, France, North Carolina, Chile, Oregon, and Washington State are poured. Live music and delicious food is also featured!
